Mr. Randal P. Wolfinger

Dear Students,

Welcome to a brand new school year! My name is Mr. Wolfinger, and I’m excited to begin my 21st year in education and my 13th year here at Orr Academy High School. It is truly a privilege to have the opportunity to work with each of you as we begin a journey of learning, growth, reflection, and discovery together.  This year, I’ll be teaching World Studies, Honors Civics, and Economics. Each course offers a unique opportunity to better understand the world around us and the role we play within it.

In World Studies, we will explore the history of civilizations, cultures, religions, revolutions, and global conflicts that have shaped human history. Together, we’ll investigate how people across time and place have struggled for power, justice, freedom, and identity. Through discussions, projects, historical inquiry, and source analysis, we’ll learn how the past continues to influence the present.

In Honors Civics, we will examine the foundations of democracy, citizenship, government, voting rights, media influence, and civic responsibility. This course challenges students to think critically about current issues, engage in meaningful dialogue, and understand how their voices can create change in their communities and beyond. We will focus on inquiry, debate, public speaking, and action-oriented learning that connects classroom ideas to the real world.

In Economics, we will study how individuals, businesses, and governments make decisions about resources, money, trade, and opportunity. We’ll explore real-world economic issues that affect our everyday lives—from jobs and budgeting to global markets and financial systems. Most importantly, we’ll examine how economics connects to equity, society, and the choices people make every day.

As your teacher, my goal is not only to help you succeed academically, but also to support you as individuals. I believe every student deserves a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, welcoming, and intellectually engaging. I want this classroom to be a place where your ideas matter, your voice is heard, and you feel encouraged to challenge yourself and grow.

This year will require curiosity, effort, and perseverance, but it will also be filled with opportunities to think deeply, ask important questions, and build meaningful connections with one another. We will learn together, support one another, and create a classroom community built on respect, empathy, and academic excellence.

I look forward to getting to know each of you and making this school year memorable, meaningful, and successful. Let’s make this a year of growth, discovery, and achievement.

Here’s to an incredible year ahead!

Warm regards,

Mr. Wolfinger
